Leela effortlessly blends her musical talents, delivering smooth vocals and insightful lyrics. With a penchant for fingerpicking on the guitar and ukulele, she showcases her instrumental prowess. Captivating audiences for over 14 years with live performances, Leela creates memorable moments through her music. Leela is originally from Toronto but now, has been based in Vancouver for 8+ years.
CAREER BACKGROUND
Leela has found considerable success as an event singer, enchanting audiences at house parties, engagement parties, weddings, restaurants, and more. Offering over 300 cover songs to choose from as well as originals, Leela is a great choice for any occasion. She has also played many of the larger venues in Toronto including Horseshoe Tavern and Lee's Palace. Leela has also completed many years of vocal lessons, songwriting classes, writer's workshops, production courses and other music-based education. Some of the schools and sessions Leela has attended are the 2023 Women In Music Accelerator Program, Berklee College of Music, Songstudio, and the 2023 Kauai Songwriters Music Festival among many others. Currently, she has had a lot of success running a monthly networking event for musicians and producers in Vancouver called Creative Collabs, which is run out of Dick & Rogers Studio / Railtown Mastering. She also currently plays every Thursday evening at the beautiful cocktail lounge Laowai in Chinatown, Vancouver.
LEEL'A’S MUSIC STYLE
Fingerpicking on the acoustic guitar + vocals. Genres range from Pop to R&B to Folk and even Country when the time calls for it. Sometimes adding a harmony vocal pedal for a larger sound, depending on the event.
Favourite artists to cover: Sam Cooke, Amy Winehouse, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Alanis Morisette, Justin Bieber, Avicii, Sublime & Childish Gambino. Can do sultry, jazzy & slower set lists (think- a cocktail hour at an upscale hotel) or more upbeat/fun with a mix of country and newer pop.
